In North America, most areas will experience a lack of weather-related disruptions this week.
As a result, none of the major cargo airports nor major ports are scoring high risk this week.
In the Intermodal hub network, 3 hubs are scoring high risk — 2 due to wildfire smoke and 1 on account of fog.
One of the areas that will experience some disruptions is the Pacific Northwest (PNW), where thick smoke continues to blanket the area due to the large number of wildfires there.
Most of the disruptions will be in interior sections of the PNW rather than along the coast.
This includes adjacent areas of Canada, especially the southern portion of British Columbia.
The other area that will have weather impacts is the south-central US, where a late-summer heat wave will cause issues ranging from enhanced protections from heat, to worker and livestock stress, to impacts within the transportation network via infrastructure issues. Europe is in its fourth heat wave of the summer, with temperatures 4–7°C above normal affecting nearly half the population and setting records in Western and Central Europe.
The Rhine is at record lows, cutting vessel capacity to ~20%, and forecast rains for southern France, Spain, Portugal, and Italy next week will come too late to help crops or river levels, leaving France's crop conditions the worst on record.
In East Asia, Typhoon Dolphin made landfall in China as a Category 1 typhoon after battering Okinawa, Japan with Category 2, ~100 mph winds, threatening inland flooding and impacting 3 cargo airports, 6 major ports, and 22 major cities across China, Japan, and Taiwan; Tropical Storm Chan Hom is
also tracking toward mainland Japan with heavy rain but low wind risk, and El Niño continues to fuel elevated Pacific tropical activity.
In South Asia, weaker monsoon activity over India is raising dryness concerns and risks to water availability for agriculture and energy in coming weeks.
