5 Minute Forecast

In North America, the weather impacts from Hurricane Helene are done but the impacts to people, businesses, and the supply chain continue to be a major item. As of this update, around 2 million customers continue to have no power in the southeast quadrant of the Nation. Also, there continues to be scores of roads and rails that are closed. Looking ahead, there is no indication of another Helene although a disturbance moving into the Gulf of Mexico from the Caribbean later this week will have to be monitored for possible development. Elsewhere, the weather across most of the Lower 48 will be dry and quiet with no major weather-related issues expected this week.

Elsewhere around the world, the biggest weather-related supply chain impacts will be in East Asia, especially in and around Taiwan. Major typhoon Krathon is forecast to make landfall in Taiwan this week likely causing severe to extreme supply chain disruptions. This includes the Port of Kaohsiung. Also of note, a stormy pattern this week across Western Europe is producing a high risk of wind disruptions at the Port of Rotterdam and in the Strait of Dover maritime corridor.
